Outing 3: Animals

Animal Crossing

This was originally a puddle that has dried up on a place where all animals go by to get the the various woods they habitat. Here there are deer prints, doggie prints and a couple of duck prints. I like this because it's a different way of photographing animals. Also I like the various different grass and straw that's got mixed up with it as i feel it sets off the colour of the mud. I could improve this if I'd have shot a couple of pictures putting the animal crossing into context. For example the various other woods and the gateway it was positioned by. All in all I feel this was a successful image.

Corn Bins

These are the containers on the farm that harvest corn gets stored in. I shot this image at night with the bulb function button. Originally I set out to photograph the shooting stars one night but i couldn't get them to show up. I lightened this image by altering the brightness on photoshop. I really like this image as it gives an adventurous eery sense about it. I feel this was a successful shot as it's ambiguity regarding what it is is mysterious. To improve on this i could try flashes and maybe a little lighting to make it more effective.

Deers daily footpath

This is the woods on many occasions I have spotted deer, this was took trying to capture a deer that ran in the wood as a test shot to ensure aperture and stutterspeed was correct. However I have not been fortunate enough to capture a deer yet so in this aspect this photograph is ineffective. On the other hand it was a happy mistake. I like the way the barbed wire is out of focus to give a trapped out effect. Also the plant and trees around the photograph frame it nicely making it nice to look at.

Destructive weather

Here I was trying to capture what the rain had done to the wheat and issues in the farm. This was successful as i really like the colours. The sky is a lovely shade and the wheat looks golden. I placed the track along the side to feed you round the picture. This is ineffective in a way because it is a bit of a dull subject.

Cows

This photograph is effective as the cows are nicely spread out. I also like the wonky ness of the picture and how it is framed with the wheat and the sky, with the subject taking up minimal space. I should experiment with more cow images and get some close ups to get a more effective shot.

Cobweb

Here I experimented with cobweb macro photography again, only this time to make it a more interesting image I found one with a backdrop. I find this is effective. However it may work better in black and white, and i should edit it in photoshop. Also I like how the piece of corn frames the subject and because of the corn  the cobwebs not the first thing you see.

Dinner Time

This photograph is effective because only the nostril is in focus and the blurred image implies action which really works in this photograph. I also love the colours and how only the nose is in the frame. It could be improved by increasing the shallow depth of field so the nostril stands out even more.

By putting the eyes in the frame and experimenting in this way makes the image less effective compared with the one above, this is because there are too many focal point when I only want the nose to be on focus. I feel this image is far less effective.

Untitled

This photograph is effective as the markings on the horse are very interesting. However maybe a close up of the nose would be more effective as there's to much going on and it feels a little unorganised.

Fly

This is one of my favourite horse photographs. I took the inspiration from "horse's morror- miguel rio branco" the closeness of the eye is very effective as it adds intimacy to the image. To make this more effective next time I could use a macro lens to pick up even more detail.

Running Horse

This image would be more effective if took at a side angle. However the horse is nicely centre and looks like he's running towards the corner of the frame, which is a nice touch. The following 3 images would be useful to sell to the horse owner at the farm, or enter into a competition.  I could even use the to put in my portfolio to show i have a broad range of subjects I like to capture.

Stallion

This image is effective as it is slightly side on and looking directly at the camera. I also love the little hoof flick at the back and I am going to try and sell it to the horse owner as i feel this captures the horses personality. It's also effective how the horse looks very alert.
